What do you do when you have no trips planned for the foreseeable future? I, for one, am terrible at waiting. I get real stir crazy and start itching to book a plane ticket to wherever is cheapest. One of the best ways to calm myself is by watching a copious amount of movies set in far away places. Looking back, I can see how this might be counterproductive. Mehhhh. Oh well. Without further ado, here is my list of 10 movies guaranteed to inspire wanderlust and make you want to book a plane ticket.
1. The Way
I’m a huge fan of Emilio Estevez ( ♥Breakfast Club), so I couldn’t not watch this movie. The story of a son who dies while walking the Camino de Santiago. His father goes to collect his body, but decides to finish his son’s journey in homage.
2. Amélie
Living in Paris and working as a waitress, introverted Amélie does good deeds for those around her. It’s quirky and adorable and makes me want to live in Paris.
3. Roman Holiday
Audrey Hepburn as a princess, exploring Rome as a commoner. Need I say more?
4. Endless Summer
Classic surfer film. Makes me want to learn how to surf, but then I remember I am the most uncoordinated person. So I settle for watching these guys kick butt at it instead.
5. UP
Yes the Disney movie. If you make it through the first 10 minutes without crying, props to you. But, we are never to old to find our Paradise Falls. Adventure is out there!
6. Letters to Juliet
BRB. Moving to Italy to open up my own winery.
7. The Darjeeling Limited
Wes Anderson for the win. Three brothers (Adrien Brody, Owen Wilson, and Jason Schwartzman) who haven’t seen each other since their father’s funeral a year ago take a train across India; ridiculousness ensues.
8. Vicky Cristina Barcelona
I’m a sucker for any movie set in my beloved Spain. Fun, sad, and a little bit raunchy.
9. The Beach
Literally just watched this today (h/t Nomadic Matt) and am now looking up flights to Thailand. Old school Leonardo DiCaprio living in an off the gird community in paradise.
10. Eat Pray Love
Classic chick flick. If I’m honest, I probably watch this almost once a week.
So there you have it. My top 10 list. Feeling inspired to book a one way ticket yet? What movies inspire you to travel? Let me know in the comments!
